We think we have won the boat lotto. Of course we wouldn’t say no to a fully loaded mega yacht with a few jet skis and a helicopter. But here are just a few of the things we love about the little-Slapdash-that-could.

Narrow Beam for smaller cheaper slips

Simple systems that don’t require a lot of maintenance

Easy to sail

Giant window in settee and master cabin makes it bright and open

Rugged and durable; very rarely do we actually break something even though we try hard

Love Hammock and large cockpit great for loads of people over for cocktails

Shallow draft to get into tricky anchorages (18”)

Propane fridge has no power draw

Drive leg can be raised out of the water to go faster under sail and/or to keep it clean

Retractable centerboards and kick-up rudders

Hard dodger protects from sun and rain

Loads of storage and incredible use of space; well designed and purpose-built

Fast and light as it was designed by an ex-racer

Affordable

And don’t forget we’re ridiculously good looking

We tend to get a lot of flack because she is built lighter than all of the tanks we see out here, even though she has sailed to the same destinations. In most cases we find that she’s gone much further. She consistently makes it in to port faster and without the long laundry list of to-do’s. So here is where we push back; Get over it salties!

Welcome to the 21st century!

To be fair and honest to all of you, we’ll also tell you what we’ve found annoying about the Gemini. It wasn’t easy but we came up with these points.

The cockpit windows leak with bad following weather (fun sideways rain)

Bridge deck pounding to windward (a Catamaran thing I hear, especially small Cats)

Deck cleats aren’t reinforced. The designer did this in order to prevent a gaping hole in the deck if it ever ripped out. Good logic but we’d like it reinforced.

Ummmm…the cockpit window blocks that hold the window closed are ugly.

Hey I'm trying, ok??That’s the very best we could do. I’m sorry! What can I say, we’re really happy we found her.

If there’s anything specific you’d like to know about the boat just email us at slapus@theslapdash.com and we’d be glad to fill you in. Or contact the boat builder , Performance Cruising Inc, who have an incredible support team over there and seem to be happy to answer even stupid questions. Why, I will never know but Thank GAD.
