Having
never gone all the way around the world before, we don't know all that much about circumnavigations. Having
never sailed before, we don't know all that much about sailboats. We will just have to sort these little details out along
the way. Call us naive, you probably already are, but we think it's really quite simple. Sell all our stuff, sell our
house, quit our jobs, say goodbye to friends and family, fly to Florida, buy a boat, figure out how it works, point it West
and keep going until we get back to where we started from.
We left our home in Vancouver BC and arrived in Florida on August 31st 2007. To minimize
hotel expense, we would like to move onto our new (used) boat as quickly as possible. We are thinking two weeks. We'll need to find one, have it surveyed, make an offer, title change
and all that crap, find a slip, and load our stuff into it. It may be an aggressive time-line, but hey, we already have our
name picked out and that's the hardest part... right?
Once on board we will spend a couple of months learning about all things nautical. When we're good
and ready (probably early November) we will head towards Cuba, hang a right, slide down the coast of central America and squeak
through the Panama Canal. Then it's across the Pacific and well, you get the idea. If you want to know more about the
route we have planned here's a rough outline. Please keep in mind that dates and destinations are estimates
and subject to change due to hurricane evasion maneuvers and stuff like that.
